Student Services Administrative Assistant
Meet Mrs. Ciomei, the Director of Student Services and School Counselor at Deer Isle-Stonington High School. She is a Deer Isle-Stonington High School alum of the graduating Class of 2013. She continued her education at Husson University, where she received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology. From there, she continued to receive her Master's degree in School Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, and Human Relations at Husson University. She grew up in Deer Isle and experienced the exceptional education provided by this school system. She is very proud to give back to our community.
Mrs. Ciomei is available to help students maximize their high school experience while being mindful of keeping students’ options open for life after high school. She will work with students regarding course selection, graduation requirements, interpretation of test results, career and post-secondary options, among much more. At DISHS, we believe in working together to help students succeed. This team includes the student, their parent or guardian, teachers, and the counselor. Mrs. Ciomei will be working with students throughout their entire high school experience for consistent support.
Starting with the Class of 2022 Students must earn 28 credits in grades 9-12 with 20 required credits and 8 elective credits/experiences in the following subjects:
English: 4 credits
Mathematics: 4 credits
Social Studies: 3.5 credits (1 must be US History)
Science: 3.5 credits (at least 1 credit of Lab Science)
Physical Education: 2 credits
Health: 1 credit
Fine Arts: 2 credits (which may include Art, Music, Drama, Industrial Arts, World Language)
Elective Credits: 8 credits
Senior Exhibition
40 hours of Community Service

Deer Isle-Stonington Guidance Department is open Monday-Friday from 7:30-3:00. If no one is available to answer your call, please feel free to leave a message or send an email. Your call or email will be returned as soon as possible.
As your student's school counselor, Mrs. Ciomei is dedicated to maintaining a safe and confidential environment. What you share with her is private and will not be disclosed without your consent, except in cases of risk to yourself or others, or suspected abuse. In some instances, she may consult with other professionals to ensure you receive the best support, but your identity will remain confidential. Your trust is vital, and she is there to help you.
DISHS has two outside clinicians who work in our building once a week to see students for counseling and therapy. Denise Antonition, LCSW, is available for students on Wednesdays, and Hector Sapien, LCSW, is available for students on Fridays. If you are interested in signing your child up for clinical counseling, please reach out to Mrs. Ciomei for the referral process.
