Welcome to the Social Studies Department
Mr. Siebert has been teaching at DISHS since 1996. He is our lead social studies teacher for the high school, where he teaches all of our social studies courses. He blends his knowledge of the topic into class discussions, essays, and projects for students. Each class starts with the a news update, which gets students thinking about the world around them and their roles in it.
Mr. Siebert is also our Student Council Advisor, Graduation Coordinator, and Varsity Golf Coach.
World Studies
World Studies is our 9th grade social studies class. Students in this class will learn about various countries, cultures, and much more.
Pre-Requisites: None
Civics Government
Civics and Government discusses the legislative systems, policitical systems, government systems, and much more.
Pre-Requisites: World Studies (Preferred)
US History
US History discusses many topics throughout the United States history such as the Civil War, presidents, and much more. This class is a graduation requirement for the State of Maine.

Psychology
This psychology class focuses on influential people in the field, mental processes, behaviors, and much more.
Pre-Requisites: World Studies, Civics and Government, US History, & 12th Grade Student (Preferred)
War, War, War
War, War, War is a class offered every other year, and discusses different wars that have happened throughout the world. This course allows for students to delve deeper into the "why" and nuances of war.
Pre-Requisites: World Studies & 10th Grade or older (Preferred)
History's Mysteries
History's Mysteries discusses various historical events that have no explanation. Students will also learn about conspiracy theories that have happened throughout history and find validity or not to the claims.
