All students need to successfully create and complete a Senior Exhibition in order to earn a Deer Isle-Stonington High School diploma. Students who attend Hancock County Technical Center (HCTC) are still required to pass a Senior Exhibition project and they will receive support from a coach at HCTC. Deer Isle-Stonington High School has had Senior Exhibition as a requirement since 2010. Senior Exhibition is an opportunity for students to independently design, implement, and exhibit their learning and mastery on a topic or subject that they are passionate about or deeply interested in. It is highly suggested that students choose a topic they have genuine interest in, as the project becomes more fun and less tedious.
While students typically start their projects their senior year of high school, students may start the project before the start of their senior year. In order to do this, students must talk to the Senior Exhibition coach, the Principal, and Director of Student Services. Students must have prior approval before starting the process in order to receive credit for the work done.
