Welcome to the Special Education Department
Ms. Joyce started as an Educational Technician in 2015 and has been a Special Education teacher since 2020. Ms. Joyce is the Special Education teacher for the majority of students with IEPs in the high school. She runs our IEP meetings as the case manager, along with teaching modified courses to students with designated IEPs.
Mrs. Schrader started teaching at the DIS middle school in 2017 and at the high school in 2023. She is our Special Education Life Skills teacher. Life Skills classes are taught to help students become independent, confident, and successful in all aspects of life: school, home, and in the community. Mrs. Schrader works with students on real-life functioning. The goal for students in the program is to prepare them for adulthood based on their individual needs and abilities.
Education Technicians
Our Educational Technicians work with ALL students throughout the school. They support them academically, socially, and emotionally. They are involved in many classes throughout the high school, including regular education and special education. We are so fortunate to have their support.

Our Special Education department is committed to not only supporting students' academic achievement and meeting goals, but also building their classroom morale and school climate. In the Special Education classroom, providing students with a positive, safe, and welcoming environment is one of their priorities. One way that they are doing this is through interactive bulletin boards.
