UMO Engineering Students Come to DISHS to Learn about Casting

Three mechanical engineering students from the UMaine Engineering program worked with DISHS Industrial Arts teacher Dennis Saindon last weekend to learn how to cast a part for their capstone project.  The students have been participating in the Formula One Racing organization to design and build a race car for college students on a national level. All their work has to follow strict rules and deadlines.  These students are working on a differential and were wondering if a cast aluminum gearbox could be used for their project. Mr. Saindon demonstrated the green sand casting process and the students have investigated using a CNC cut pattern to be cast in our shop. Hopefully the UMO students are willing to present this project to our students to show the importance of a presentation, and the parallels to our Applied Engineering projects.
