The PSAT is coming and we want to be sure you are ready!  THE PSAT WILL TAKE PLACE AT SCHOOL ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19TH AT 7:45!

Most 10th and 11th grade students should take this test. It is a practice for the SAT which is required by many colleges and which all Maine students must taken 11th grade. The test usually costs $15. This year, Deer Isle-Stonington High School will pay the fee for any Sophomore or Junior who would like to take the test. Starting in January of 2017, the Collegeboard will offer free individualized test prep for any student who takes the PSAT.

By taking the PSAT your son or daughter will:
  • Gain access to scholarship opportunities offered by large pool of colleges.
  • Get valuable academic institution profile information to aid with post-secondary planning and discovering options for learning that may not have otherwise been considered.
  • Get great FREE practice to best prepare for the SAT coming up in April, 2017. The PSAT is designed exactly like the SAT!
  • Gain great insight into their academic strengths and weaknesses; allowing for custom-designed SAT practice thru Khan Academy (a free online resource) that they can start on months before the SAT.
Students should bring a calculator and two #2 lead pencils.  The Collegeboard does not allow calculators on a cell phone and in fact do not allow cell phones to be out while the test is being administered.

If you are unsure that your student should participate or if you have any questions, please feel free to call or email me at 348-2303 or toddwest@dishs.org.
