Apple’s latest operating system. Each year as available, the MLTI solution will be upgraded to utilize the latest version of the Mac OS.

Appleworks http://www.apple.com/appleworks
Productivity suite that includes word processor, spreadsheet, database, drawing, painting, and presentation tools. This is Apple's old Office Suite (like Microsoft Office). It is no longer supported by Apple and I would suggest you don't bother starting to use it, if you haven't used it in the past (even if you have... let it go :o) Try NeoOffice or Pages!

CyberDuck http://cyberduck.ch
CyberDuck is an open source, fully featured FTP/SFTP client. Users may use it to upload web pages to web servers and perform other file transfer needs.

Fast and popular open source web browser... like Internet Explorer (highest rated web browser). You can surf the Internet using Firefox and have a wide variety of ways you can customize the Firefox browser to enhance your use of the Internet.

GarageBand http://www.apple.com/ilife/garageband
Digital recording studio. Record and edit your own music and podcasts. Podcasting is really easy... it is a great way to create audio recordings. Podcasts can be loaded onto iPods or other MP3 players and audio files can easily be linked to web pages.

Google Earth combines the power of Google Search with satellite imagery, maps, terrain and 3D buildings to put the world's geographic information at your fingertips.Google Earth puts a planet's worth of imagery and other geographic information right on your desktop. This application uses a lot of bandwidth (which means it requires a fast Internet connection to work well). Try a single laptop and projector in class when you use Google Earth... or use it during group projects (WebQuests)... where only one computer is being used by each group. Avoid wheeling in the mobile lab and having every laptop trying to access Google Earth.

GNU - GIMP http://www.gimp.org
GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. Similar to Adobe Photoshop.

A 2D and 3D graphing calculator. One of the most underrated features introduced in OS X 10.4 (Tiger), especially for scientists, is Grapher.app, the powerful 2D and 3D graphing calculator located in the Applications->Utilities folder.

Movie editing software... like Movie Maker (except a lot easier and better quality). You can use pictures or video clips... edit together and create videos/shows.

Digital photo management, image enhancement, and slideshows... and so much more. This is a great toolkit for working with still images. Plug a camera into a Mac and iPhoto will open automatically to import your images... no need to install camera software. All photos in your iPhoto library and all music/audio in your iTunes library are accessible ina variety of Mac Apps. (iMovie, GarageBand, Keynote)... allowing you to easily add multimedia to projects or productions.

Presentation (slideshow) software… better than PowerPoint.

Open source (free to download) office productivity suite. A good substitute for what you have used Microsoft Office to do... create, open, edit, and save office formatted files (.doc, .xls, .ppt).

NetLogo is a programmable modeling environment for simulating natural and social phenomena. It is particularly well suited for modeling complex systems developing over time.
