Welcome to our Visions page. Everything you need to know about how we got started, what we'd like to accomplish, and who's helping us along the way.

It all started with the CREST project... Community for Rural Education Stewardship and technology. The Nation Science Foundation gave a three year $1.2 million dollar grant to the Island Institute. Deer Isle Stonington is one of 11 schools that were given technology training and equipment! For the next three years we hope to research different topics of interest to us and share them with the community. Some of our projects include Deer Isle land tranfers over the years, a documentary about the lives of the America Cup winning Deer Isle Boys. A major goal with this project is to integrate the technology skills learned into the classroom and share them with other students, teachers, and community members. .
The BRIDGE Project is made up of a group of students and teachers from the Deer Isle-Stonington Highschool and Elementary School we are hoping to work together using technology to improve our community. We would like to start with the problem of no affordable land and housing. We are working very hard to try and make our community a better more desirable place to live for everyone.
In 1895 and 1899, two crews from Deer Isle, Maine won the America's Cup. Our research on these men had led us on an adventure around the world. When were are finish we hope to have completed a book, documentary, and a permanent display at the local historical society and highschool. Many of the skills we've learned and the equipment we have been given are being used in the classroom. In the Fall of 2007, there is a CREST class at Deer Isle Stonington Highschool, there are more than 20 people enrolled.
