Deer Isle
Adult and Community Education

Mike Wood, Director

From the Director's Desk

Recently there has been an upsurge in community members coming through my door seeking information about furthering their education. Some have been wanting to take a G.E.D. Others have called for information about the C.N.A. course and college courses. Still others suggest ideas for courses. I try to accommodate all and usually do in some way. It is a great job to be helping people. As a result, numerous people have gone on to college and received a degree. They have been many others who have improved their lives by learning skills at night school and gone on to use this knowledge at their jobs or homes. This success is what our programs are all about.

Enclosed are the offerings of all five of the Deer Isle Adult and Community Education Programs. There are incredibly diverse, reflecting the community in which we live. There are some old favorites as well as some new ideas.  As the community changes, more adults are finding a need to continue learning.

The reason why Adult and Community Education has been so successful  is because it meets the needs of the people in the community. I hope to stay in step with these changes but can only succeed if members of the community help me by suggesting new courses and ideas. It is my hope that the Adult Education Programs will encourage us to become or continue to be life long learners.

From the Director’s Desk -

As Deer Isle Adult and Community Education is entering its 30h year, I am gratified to have seen so many past graduates that have been affected positively from our adult ed. programs. Beside the numerous people who have gone on to college and received a degree, they have been many others who have improved their lives by learning skills through our programs and gone on to use this knowledge at their jobs or homes.

The reason why Adult and Community Education has been so successful in the past is because it meets the needs of the people in the community as it changes with the times. I hope to stay in step with these changes but can only succeed if members of the community help me by suggesting new courses and ideas. It is my hope that the Adult Education Programs will encourage us to become or continue to be life long learners.
